| There are as many ways to enjoy an extended kayak trip as there are ways to enjoy day trips. And there are equally as many things to consider. All the techniques required for a day trip are also required for camping trips. Added to that are the requirements of staying out over night - shelter, bedding, and meals. Camping also is likely to take you farther away and into more dangerous situations than you generally encounter in a day trip.
While guided kayak tours are not inexpensive they can be both fun and a great way to learn new techniques by observing the organization and preparation of the guides. They can also serve as a great introduction to the area even if you have a lot of experience.
The following pages describe some of the things you might consider when camping by kayak. There are many other pages on this site with useful information and skills you can use while kayak camping. There are also many many trip reports of kayak camping excursions and expeditions. In every trip report an effort is made to expound on some aspect of kayak camping, paddling, planning.or safety.
